Drinking water quality management system

The City of Waterloo holds a drinking water works permit through the province's municipal drinking water licensing program and is an accredited operating authority.

We follow a Drinking Water Quality Management System (DWQMS) that guides how we operate, monitor and improve our water distribution network. Learn more in the operational plan (PDF).

Our Quality Management System Policy (PDF) shows our commitment to:

  • providing safe drinking water
  • meeting all legal and regulatory requirements
  • continually improving how the system is managed
  • communicating openly about drinking water quality

Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002, the city also maintains a six-year financial plan to support the long-term sustainability of our water system. Read the financial plan (PDF).

Annual water quality reports

In 2024, the City of Waterloo received a 100% compliance rating. This means our drinking water met or exceeded all provincial safety standards.

Every year, we prepare a water quality report that shows how Waterloo’s water system performed.
