On January 27, 1945, the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp was liberated. This date is now commemorated as Holocaust Remembrance Day, remembering one of the darkest times in human history when over six million Jewish people were murdered by the Nazis.

The City of Waterloo has declared a Significant Weather Event effective at 6 p.m. today Sunday, January 25, 2026. During a Significant Weather Event, residents are encouraged to stay off the roads to allow crews to clear roadways. The City has also declared a snow event and street parking ban effective at 11:59 p.m. today Sunday, January 25, 2026.

The City of Waterloo is cancelling the current snow event and street parking ban as of 12 p.m. (noon) Friday, January 23, 2026. The team has made significant progress clearing city roads.

The City of Waterloo has declared a snow event and street parking ban for another day starting at 9 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2026.
