A shared street designed to emphasize walking and cycling and to be a social space where people can meet and interact, the woonerf is the first of its kind in the City of Waterloo. The unique design of the street welcomes and encourages active transportation while slowing through vehicle traffic.

The work of Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services, the City of Waterloo, Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), and emergency services partners, together with Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Waterloo to ensure the safety of students and community members has become even more significant with the current challenges local hospitals are facing.
