Time to change your clocks and the batteries in all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms (2)Waterloo Fire Rescue recommends residents replace the old batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when they change their clocks this weekend for the start of daylight saving time.
“In order for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to work, they need to have fresh batteries,” says fire chief Richard Hepditch.

Waterloo ranks high in citizen satisfactionThe City of Waterloo recently conducted its first citizen satisfaction survey and the results are in – 99 per cent of residents state the quality of life in Waterloo is good and 94 per cent of residents are satisfied with Waterloo as a place to live. In addition, 88 per cent of residents polled say they receive good value for the taxes they pay, and 82 per cent of residents say they are aware of opportunities to participate and engage with city staff.
Police and local municipalities launch emergency alerting systemWaterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo, local area municipalities and the Waterloo Regional Police Service are jointly launching a new emergency notification system: Alert Waterloo Region (AlertWR).
AlertWR is a service that allows residents to receive important public safety messages in the event of large scale emergencies such as floods, severe weather, or significant power outages.

Winter operations - a status updateWATERLOO REGION – The weather events of last week, coupled with a region-wide salt shortage, is creating icy conditions on residential back roads. Area municipalities are working together to obtain additional supply of salt and have prioritized existing salt supplies to ensure, at a minimum, main roads and bus routes receive adequate salt coverage during the upcoming predicted freezing rain.
Public information centre - rehabilitation of Silver Lake, Laurel Creek and Waterloo Park The City of Waterloo is undertaking the detailed design phase of the recommended alternatives presented through a recently completed Class Environmental Assessment. The Environmental Assessment recommended improvements to Laurel Creek upstream of Silver Lake and improvements to Silver Lake.
